The End Is Here ...

I chose to write about Henry and how he has changed in ten cha
pters of the book The White Mountains because I think he is the one out of the three boys who has changed the most. I think this because in the beginning of the book (page 5) it describes Henry to be: '' he was a month younger than I, but taller and Heavier, and we hated each other as long as I could remember. WHen it came to fighting, as it very often did, I was outmatched physically, and had to rely on agility and quickness of I were not going to be beaten ''. So obviously, as it describes, Henry it seems as thought he is mean and very strong. He is not the sort of guys you want to be messing with. As they went on with their journey Henry started to just agree and say nothing mean to Will (page 46) '' I said '' You do as you like. I am lying up.'' Henry shrugged '' We'll stay here, if you say so''. '' I think this shows how Henry has sort of seen that there is no point in hurting Will because they wont get any where with it and it will just make the journey not fun and maybe not worth while either.

When Henry and Will were running away from the supposed to be people (actually sheep) Will tripped and hurt his ankle and during Wills recovery Henry was very nice to Will because he got food for each other and he took care of Will. So this shows that Henry and Will were becoming more comfortable with each other and they could take care and be nice to each other.

Once Will and Henry were in France they met Bean-Pole who helped them out a lot and showed then the a way to the White Mountains. Henry soon began to take Bean- Poles side and was excluding Will a lot and there is an example on page 84 '' Bean-Pole said '' The steps - they are so wide ten people could go side by side. Where do they lead ?'' I said '' Does it matter ? If we aren't resting, we'd better get going on'' ''If I could see ...'' Bean-Pole said. '' Why was such a thing built, so great great tunnel?'' ''Who cares?'' I shrugged ''You wouldn't see anything down there.'' '' We've got two candles,'' Henry said. I said angrily ''We haven't got time. We don't ant to have to spend a night here.'' They ignored me. Henry said to Bean-Pole, '' We could go a bit of the way down, and see what there is.'' Bean-Pole nodded. I said'' It's stupid'' Henry said ''You don't need to come, if you don't want to. You can stay here and rest'' In this part of the book Henry is agreeing with Bean-Pole because Henry and Bean-Pole are close friends. Will does not like the way that Henry and Bean-Pole are treating him. When Henry says 'you can stay her is you want' it makes you seem like he really does not want Will to come with.

When they are in the Castle of The Red Tower Will starts to change his mind and he does not want to go to the White mountains anymore because he does not want to leave the luxury that he was in because he was enjoying it so much. Page 127 '' I shook my head '' I am not coming.'' Bean-Pole asked '' Why, Will?'' Henry said nothing, but stood there with a smile on his broad face, that I felt hated, at this moment, even more than at home in Wherton. ''. This part describes how Henry really does not like Will anymore because he seems so happy that Will said he will not go with them to the White Mountains. A few para graphs later Will says: '' I said '' I'll give you a day to get clear, two perhaps. I'll Follow. I'll try to catch up with you; but don't wait for me.'' Henry laughed '' We won't'' This shows that Henry really does not like Will at all because it seems like he really wont wait for him. This was one of the last times Will was not very nice to Henry.

So in conclusion Henry was not nice at all in the beginning of the book and then he gradually became nicer and nicer, then they met Bean-Pole, as Henry got to know Bean-Pole he kept on taking Bean-Poles side. Then from there on Henry was not treating Will very nice at all because I think Henry was thinking back to when they had all the fights and he was just very angry and upset about everything.

In parts of the book I liked it and in parts I didn't because in some of the most adventurous the author didn't put much detail and if he did then I would be able to picture it more/ visualize it, but in parts is was very fun to read and it made you want to read on. So I think I liked this book 50-50. In the beginning of the book I was not very interested in the book because it does not have a very interesting beginning, but as I read on I liked it a little bit more.

! FREEEEEEEEEEEEDOM !

Will started to discover life with the Comtesse, Eloise, Comte and all the wonderful people in the castle could make a wonderful life. Will started to see that maybe capping was not so bad after all. He thought that he could become a knight and live at the castle forever and never go to the White Mountains Mountains. Your life controlled by tripods, never to be able to think for yourself ever again. Will started to doubt the fact of having no freedom What value did courage have, without a free and challenging mind to direct it?’ Will couldn’t bear the thought of not having freedom at all. Will also realized that Eloise had no feeling for him at all and he decided that life at the castle was a waste and he had to continue his journey to a full life of wonderful freedom.
